The hall began life as two school buildings in the 1890s. Our Towns Fund bid would make it a place of learning again — this time with robots.
There's a lovely symmetry to this story. Haworth Village Hall opened in the 1890s as two school buildings on Butt Lane. A century and a quarter later, we're working to make it a place of learning again — this time with laptops, microcontrollers and rockets.
The bid
Working with our partners at Space to Inspire, the hall is part of a Towns Fund bid to create a permanent STEM learning hub for the Worth Valley:
- Weekly coding clubs for ages 8–14
- School-holiday engineering camps
- Adult digital-skills sessions, because it's never too late
- Equipment the whole community can use, not just visit
Why here?
Because access matters. Keighley and the Worth Valley have brilliant kids and a long engineering heritage, but opportunities cluster in cities. A hub in the village hall puts hands-on science within walking distance of every child in Haworth — in the very rooms their great-great-grandparents learned to read.
How you can help
- Come along: our Summer Coding Camp is free, thanks to the partnership.
- Volunteer: engineers, makers and patient explainers are gold dust — email hello@haworthvillagehall.org.uk.
- Donate: every pound towards the building keeps the lights on for the next generation. You'll find the support button at the end of the home page.
